Understand the three components
The outer base holds the pack, an inner neck rises above it, and a separate lid fits over that neck. This is why buyers often call it a three-piece box. The visible strip can be narrow or more pronounced, depending on the intended design. Confirm whether the neck should remain visible with the lid closed and how the inside surfaces will be lined.
When this construction helps
A collar can guide the lid into place and introduce a second colour or texture. It suits products where the opening sequence and close-up presentation matter. It also adds material and alignment work, so it should solve a real design need. A standard top-bottom box can be a better starting point if the buyer wants a simpler construction without a collar.

Keep the bottle or jewellery holder in the brief
A tall collar changes how a customer reaches the product. The insert should position the item where it can be seen and removed comfortably. Include the cap height for a perfume bottle and the full holder dimensions for a coin, watch or jewellery item. Fabric lining is a surface choice; the supporting structure must still locate the product.
Plan printing and finish around the joins
Foil logos, printed patterns and contrasting paper can emphasize the lid and reveal. Show which surfaces need decoration: lid, base, neck and inside. Check that small text and fine details are not lost at wrapped edges. If the neck uses a different material, approve its colour and texture with the main wrap rather than from separate screen images.

Does every visible colour band mean a shoulder-neck box?
