Magnetic, top-and-bottom, shoulder-neck, drawer, book-style and collapsible rigid boxes developed around your product dimensions, board, print, finish and insert requirement.
What makes a box rigid?
A rigid box uses dense paperboard to create a firm shell, then wraps that structure in printed, coloured or textured paper. Unlike a folding carton, the completed box normally holds its shape without being erected by the end customer.
The result is a packaging format suited to products that benefit from a deliberate opening experience, a fitted insert or a keepsake-quality presentation. Construction, board thickness, wrap, insert and decoration must be specified as one system—not selected in isolation.
Six starting structures
The right construction depends on product fit, storage, assembly and the way the customer should reveal the product.
Hinged presentation
A hinged lid with concealed magnets creates a controlled reveal for gifting, launch kits and premium product sets.
Two-piece classic
A separate lift-off lid and base give a clean silhouette for beauty, apparel, confectionery and keepsake packaging.
Three-piece reveal
An inner neck projects between the lid and base, adding alignment, strength and a contrasting reveal line.
Sleeve and tray
A rigid sleeve holds a pull-out tray for jewellery, accessories, confectionery and compact electronics.
Hinged cover
A cover opens like a book around a rigid tray, creating a broad branding area for editions, kits and documents.
Fold-flat construction
Panels fold down for storage and transit, then assemble into a premium box using concealed magnetic or adhesive closures.
| Construction | How it works | Typical applications | Important cost drivers | Dispatch state |

Specification checklist
Good quoting begins with enough information to compare like with like. A decorative finish cannot be priced or sampled accurately until the box size, structure, wrap and quantity are understood.
Send your requirementBoard, wrap and insert
Board thickness is selected against box size, product weight, opening action and required stiffness. The ranges below are useful planning references, not universal prescriptions; the approved sample determines the final specification.
Can suit smaller boxes and lighter products when the dimensions and construction provide enough support.
A common planning range for balanced stiffness, wrapping and presentation across standard rigid-box formats.
May be considered for larger spans, heavier contents or a more substantial hand feel, subject to engineering review.
Choose coated paper, uncoated colour stock, specialty texture or another approved wrap based on print, finish and rub resistance.
A coloured or printed lining can continue the identity inside the lid, tray or neck and cover visible structural board.
Paperboard, foam, EVA or fabric-covered fitments are developed around the product shape and presentation requirement.
Specification note: millimetre ranges are indicative planning guidance. Final board, wrap, adhesive, insert and tolerance are confirmed only after the structure and physical sample are approved.
Print and decoration
Artwork, paper, coverage and finishing method must be tested together because not every effect behaves the same on every wrap.
For photography, gradients and multi-colour graphics on a suitable printed wrap.
For a specified brand colour when the selected paper and print process support it.
Metallic, pigment or holographic foil applied with a die for logos and controlled accents.
A raised or recessed impression that gives a mark physical depth, with or without foil.
Selective gloss or dimensional contrast used on compatible printed and laminated surfaces.
Useful for selected opaque, metallic or high-impact applications subject to the wrap material.
Gloss, matte, soft-touch or approved specialty film can alter appearance and surface durability.
Texture, colour, pattern and interior graphics can extend the identity beyond the outer lid.
Feasibility note: fine type, large solid areas, tight registration, foil-plus-emboss combinations and raised effects are reviewed against the artwork and chosen substrate before approval.
Transparent quote logic
No honest manufacturer can price every rigid box from a single size chart. Unit cost is built from the approved structure, material consumption, process steps and production quantity.
Sampling, dies, screens, foil blocks or other tooling may be quoted as one-time development costs rather than hidden inside every production unit.
MOQ and quantity planning
MOQ depends on size, construction, substrate, finish, insert and machinery setup. These ranges explain the commercial pattern; the final minimum is confirmed only after the actual brief is reviewed.
Structural or finished samples for approval. This is development work, not the production MOQ.
Possible for selected specifications, usually with a higher unit rate because setup is spread across fewer boxes.
Many custom rigid-box programs become commercially practical around 500+ production units.
Some specialty materials, finishing combinations or production plans may require 1,000 units or more.
Buying tip: request comparable rates at 500, 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 units. That makes setup cost, scale benefit and inventory commitment visible before you decide.
Built around the product
The category influences insert design, surface durability, opening experience and the amount of product information that must appear on the pack.
Real work, real finishes
Project photographs from Printing Material show the practical range: rigid drawers, magnetic formats, paper tubes, printed cartons, custom inserts, metallic foil and specialty opening systems.
Approval points
A sample is used to review the real structure and product fit. Visible details can then be aligned to the approved specification before production planning.
Finished size, opening action, board fit and insert retention.
Wrap, colour intent, registration, logo position and finish placement.
The approved specification becomes the common reference for manufacturing checks.
Rigid box FAQ
Common constructions include magnetic closure, top-and-bottom or lid-and-base, shoulder-neck, drawer, book-style and collapsible rigid boxes. Each creates a different opening action, material yield, assembly requirement and delivery volume.
Approximate planning ranges run from 1.5–1.8 mm for compact lighter formats, 2.0–2.5 mm for many premium programs and 2.5–3.0 mm for some larger or heavier packs. Final board is selected against dimensions, load and construction, then confirmed in the sample.
Depending on the wrap and artwork, options can include CMYK offset, Pantone spot colour, foil stamping, embossing, debossing, spot or raised UV, screen printing, lamination, specialty paper and inside printing. Feasibility is approved process by process.
There is no honest universal MOQ. Below 500 units is reviewed case by case, many programs become commercially practical around 500 units, and complex specifications may require 1,000 or more. Development samples are not the production MOQ.
Price is derived from finished dimensions, construction, board and wrap yield, print coverage, finishing passes, insert, conversion and hand assembly, order quantity, tooling, packing and delivery. Comparing 500, 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000-unit tiers makes the scale effect visible.
Briefs can be developed for beauty, jewellery, electronics, corporate gifting, confectionery, wellness, fragrance, fashion and premium retail launches. Product weight, fitment, secondary-packaging needs and required pack information still determine the final structure.
A practical guide for your order
Printing Material manufactures custom rigid and related paper boxes in Delhi NCR. Start with the product, choose an opening style, then confirm the board, printing and inside holder before placing a production order.
Two boxes that look alike can use different board, wrapping paper, inserts and finishing processes. Ask for each part to be identified in the quote. Include the quantity per size and artwork version, sample scope, delivery postcode and required date. This makes a magnetic, drawer or lift-off lid comparison useful rather than a comparison of incomplete prices.
The guides below explain which parts to measure and inspect for magnetic, sliding, top-bottom, shoulder-neck and fold-flat boxes. They include real portfolio references and practical sample checks. For a bottle, jewellery item or gift kit, start with the actual contents rather than copying the outside dimensions of another brand's box.
