Choose the SBS Carton Structure Before the Finish
The opening, base and pack-out method decide how a carton works.
Straight and reverse tuck ends
These directions change the arrangement of the opening flaps and the way the carton is erected and filled. Discuss display face, product removal, glue seam and line/manual packing. Neither style should be declared stronger or cheaper for every job without checking the exact dieline.
Locking and pre-glued bases
A locking or pre-glued base can be considered for the relevant product and packing method. It is not a load rating. Filled weight, board, flap design, glue and outer packing must be reviewed together. Ask for a loaded sample and confirm how staff will erect the pack.
Sleeves, trays and windows
A sleeve wraps an existing inner pack or tray and may not retain a product independently. A window changes the face and may need a film or an alternative retention system. State every component in the brief so the quote does not silently omit the tray, film or insert.
Single products and multi-item cartons
One lipstick tube and a twelve-vial discovery set need different interior planning. For mixed packs, share dimensions, orientation and count for every item. Separate the carton quantity from the number of product cavities in each carton.
What sample approval should establish
Check erection, filling, flap seating, product access, loaded base, carton squareness and the approved artwork panels. Include the planned outer transit packaging when handling exposure matters. A neat empty sample is not a complete performance test.
Before you order
Can I choose a structure without knowing measurements?
You can shortlist a direction. The final dieline needs the product or verified measurements and packing scope.
Does a sleeve reduce the cost automatically?
Not necessarily. Its material, finishing and any separate tray or inner box still need costing.
Can one carton fit every SKU in a range?
Only after fit and packing review. Avoid excessive empty space or unsafe product movement merely to use one dieline.
